Concern for the environment is now a cornerstone of the construction industry and Bishop Acklam Developments are aware of the effect that human activity has on the planet. We fully endorse the legislation continuing to tighten the controls on the depletion of natural resources and the liberation of CO2 into the atmosphere. The very fact that Bishop Acklam looks to specialise in the restoration of existing buildings, illustrates our dedication to this vital change - in bringing otherwise derelict properties ‘back to life’ we can help reduce pressure to build on precious green-belt land.
Our Trematon barns project is a perfect example, here the company has employed local craftsmen using traditional techniques. Replacing the boundary between our development and existing properties presented an interesting dilemma: where a simple panel fence would have sufficed, we chose to construct a traditional dry stone wall. This enabled us to utilise recycled stone from the construction of the Liskeard bypass - not the most cost effective measure but certainly one that reduces the environmental impact of the project, whilst also greatly enhancing the character of the location.
This theme continues inside the homes we create, meaning wherever possible we specify highly energy efficient appliances, heating systems, and insulation. This means we can ensure that both the impact on the environment and the financial costs of running a home are minimised.
Our care and consideration does not end with the boundaries of our construction sites. Bishop Acklam use architects with experience and knowledge of the history and traditions of our sites. When a development is placed within an existing community, the company will always insist upon open communication with existing local residents, trying to keep the noise and inevitable disruption to a minimum. It’s only by following these measures that Bishop Acklam can produce unique homes which complement and enhance their surroundings.
